November 16, 2020 Dear Parents,
We are trying to make this virtual transition as seamless as possible. All staff and students have worked very hard this school year to prepare for any challenges that might arise. By now, all students should have logged into their Gmail accounts and joined their teacher’s Google Classroom using the link provided in the student’s East Shore email. Teachers will post their weekly lesson plans to Google Classroom every Monday for the week. This will help students and parents stay on track and know what assignments will be due for that week. All work for the week will be due the following Monday. All students should plan on four hours of schooling per day. Parents, please sit with your student(s) and look through their East Shore email for any communication from our staff.
The virtual school day will be structured as following:
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.- All teaching staff will be live on Google Classroom/Google Meet. There will be direct instruction and conversation with the classroom teacher and students. This is a very important time for students to receive instruction and ask questions directly. All lessons will be recorded and posted in Google Classrooms for future reference.
12:00 p.m. (as needed) – This will be time for students to complete any assignments that were not completed during the morning session.
If you have any technology concerns please call QCS 888-956-6066 as they will be servicing email password resets, and computer and/or iPad issues.

Dear Families,
I hope you have enjoyed the great summer weather we have had this year. As summer is ending, we wanted to touch base concerning the current phase 4 level the Governor has issued for the school district. With the current phase 4 level, East Shore Leadership Academy must take many strict precautions in order to comply with Governor Whitmer’s orders.
Technology pick up days for Virtual/Hybrid/In Person Student(s) are September 1st and September 2nd between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. When you arrive, please buzz the front door and state the student(s) name and grade. We are asking that you have three completed forms that are within this packet to expedite the process. The three forms are the Parent Sign off agreement (yellow paper), Tech agreement (light green), Virtual Online Learning (pink). All parents/guardians must have all three forms filled out for each student before any technology is released.
Please carefully read the following information: During Phase 4-
- All staff and students will have their temperatures screened prior to entering the building. Anyone with a fever will NOT be allowed to enter the school building.
- Please drop off students between 7:40 a.m. to 8 a.m. Our doors open at 7:40 a.m. and the screening process will start at that time. We are requesting students stay 6 feet apart of each other even while outside. All students must wear a mask prior to entering the building. Only K-4 students will be allowed to remove masks once inside their classroom.
- At this time, Parents and other family members will NOT be allowed to enter the school building. For our younger students who may need help getting to their classrooms, an ESLA staff member will escort them to their designated room. (This has never been my policy, but under phase 4 we must comply with this rule).
- Early Pickups – If you need to pick up prior to 3:30 p.m. please buzz the front door and state the name(s) of the student(s) you are picking up. We will gather the student(s) and bring them outside to you. We will be checking ID’s so please have them in your hand.
- Dismissal will be staggered during phase 4. We will dismiss the K-2 students at 3:20 p.m. outside. Grades 3-8 will be dismissed at 3:30 p.m. If you have students during
both dismissals, please do not wait by the school for the second dismissal. Please stand
behind the orange cones for everyone’s safety.
- For Virtual student(s) or Hybrid student(s) we will offer frozen breakfast and lunch pickups on Tuesdays and Thursday between 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. All meals must be preordered by using the order form and turned in each Thursday by 10:30 a.m. Meals will only be given to those who preorder, and only be distributed during these time frames. Preorder lunch forms will be given on technology pick up day on Sept 1st & Sept 2nd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- All in person students should bring a water bottle each day, as under phase 4, drinking fountains are not able to be used.
The first day of school is September 8th. We look forward to seeing you all soon!
Sincerely,
Deanna Hall Principal

Dear Families,
Thank you for being part of our East Shore Family. We know this has been a trying time for all of us and we appreciate your patience and understanding. On June 30th Governor Whitmer released her MI Safe Schools 2020-21 Return to School Roadmap. We are working on the necessary requirements throughout the different phases of the Roadmap. The “Good News” is that she is planning on face to face instruction for the start of school on September 8 .
Many of our families have asked the question, “Will our students be required to wear masks in school?” We must follow Governor Whitmer requirements. We are hopeful that students will not have to wear masks in the classroom. If students want to wear masks, we will gladly accommodate those students even if masks are optional at that time. As a school we must follow the Governor’s orders and we will not know what Return to School Roadmap Phase we are in until late August. The Roadmap can be access by going to https://www.michigan.gov/whitmer and type in the search bar Return to School Roadmap.
This school year we will be issuing every student either an iPad or Chromebook to keep at home while they are enrolled at ESLA. Having additional educational technology will help provide skill building activities for our students. Each piece of technology will have a padded backpack for storing and carrying.
We will be sending out additional information, school supply list, and school forms in our August mailing. For up to date information please continue to check our ESLA Facebook page and website. If you have any phone number or address changes, please call the office at 810-294-8040.
Sincerely,
Deanna Hall Principal

Dear East Shore Leadership Academy Parents/Guardians,
First and foremost, we would like to thank you for staying engaged with us during the school closure due to COVID-19. It has been a challenge for us all, but we are confident that as a school family we will get through this together.

In preparation for next year, as it may look different, there are several things for all of us to focus our attention on:
• We are looking at several different models on what school MAY look like next year which may include;
o Resume school as normal
o Blended in-person and virtual learning (school and at home)
o Offer families that do not feel comfortable with their child at school in person an
opportunity to continue with 100% virtual learning
- When ESLA opens we will increase cleaning and safety precautions to ensure your childis in a clean and safe learning environment.
- Next school year ESLA will provide each student a school-issued computer to use athome while actively enrolled at ESLA.
- All new and returning families will be issued a $50 gift card as long as the student isenrolled at least through October 7, 2020.
- We will be available to you this summer if you have any questions or need anyassistance with anything during that time.
o June 29, 2020 – July 1, 2020 from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. A. family member can come to the school to pick up any of their child’s items leftover during the closure and turn in their completed assignments. Please only send one adult family member per household during this week as we want to comply with social distancing and wearing a mask until the order has been lifted.
- Look for summer mailings from ESLA with updates from the school and/or teachers.
- All student completed assignments (paper) will be due over the summer between 9:00a.m. – 12:00 p.m. the weeks of June 29-July 1, July 13-16, July 20-23, and July 27-30, 2020.

Dear East Shore Leadership Academy Families,
I hope this note finds you and yours in good health. I want to start off by saying, “Thank you to all our families and our staff.” We were all thrown into an incredibly difficult situation and are making the best of the school year while keeping everyone safe and healthy at home.
As you know, the teachers are running a live Google Classroom from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. on school days. If you haven’t yet, please sign in. Starting the week of April 13th all students at ESLA will be receiving work packets from their teachers in the mail. These packets will come directly to your home. The work in the packet will take the students to the end of the school year which is June 17th. Please complete the entire packet of work, along with signing into the Google Classroom for additional instruction. We will be collecting all completed packets in late
June. We will communicate the dates though your child’s teacher/s and the ESLA website and Facebook page. I am waiting on the exact date due to the ever-changing nature of this pandemic.
We really miss our students and cannot wait to see those smiling faces!!!
With Much Appreciation,

Michigan is currently in the top five states in the nation in number of confirmed COVID-19 cases. Several governors across the country have taken similar steps to protect their communities from the spread of COVID-19, including governors Mike DeWine (R-OH), Andrew Cuomo (D-NY), J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), Tom Wolf (D-PA), Gavin Newsom (D-CA), John Bel Edwards (D-LA), Phil Murphy (D-NJ), and Ned Lamont (D-CT).
Patients with confirmed infection have reportedly had mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of:
- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
The best prevention for viruses, such as influenza, the common cold or COVID-19 is:
- If you think you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your health care provider. If you do not have a health care provider, call the nearest hospital.
- Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for 20 seconds. If not available, use hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or upper sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
- If you are sick, stay home, and avoid contact with others.
Stay at least 6 feet away from others when in a public setting.
Information around this outbreak is changing rapidly. The latest information is available at Michigan.gov/Coronavirus and CDC.gov/Coronavirus.

August 2020 Letter to Families - CLICK ME
August 4, 2020
Dear Families,
I hope this letter finds everyone well and enjoying the summer! We are making plans for our upcoming school year that is set to start on September 8th.
Governor Whitmer has given the schools a Return to School Roadmap that must be followed. She will decide what phase the schools are in (Phase 1-6). Once that decision has been made, the school will follow what her guidelines are for that phase. I have included a breakdown of the phases on the next page as simply as I could, based on the state mandates. This year we are issuing each student an IPad or Chromebook to keep at home. As long as your student is enrolled at ESLA they will be able to keep the Ipad or Chromebook at home until the student is no longer enrolled at ESLA. If the student(s) leaves ESLA all technology must be returned to the school immediately.
In order to get ready for this year ahead we have three options for our ESLA families to select from:
Offering #1 – In School Model
5 days a week face to face instruction (during Phases 4-6)
Offering #2 – Hybrid Model
Students would attend ESLA, ONLY on Mondays (or the first day of the new week based on the school calendar). The other 4 days would be at home completing assignments (during Phases 4-6). Weekly assignments must be completed before the next class session.
Offering #3 – Online Model
100% online learning
Please read this letter carefully so you can choose the best option for your family. I am asking all families to call the school (810-294-8040) and let us know if you are opting in for our In- School Model, Hybrid Model, or 100% Online Model. Please do so as soon as possible so we can prepare our students, staff, and building.
As long as we are in Phases 4-6, we are able to offer in-person instruction with varying guidelines. We will have to minimize the number of students allowed in the classroom for in- person instruction based on the social distancing mandates. The following page will break down additional instructions for face to face guidelines.
In School Model – Students would attend ESLA 5 days a week for in-person instruction. There will be varying guidelines and rules that each student would follow during the school day. Please see the attached page for guidelines. In addition, students would receive an IPad or Chromebook to use at home while enrolled at ESLA.
Hybrid Model – Students would report to ESLA, ONLY on Mondays, (or the first school day of the week depending on the school calendar). Tuesday through Friday would be spent at home completing the week of assignments on their ESLA issued technology. All assignments would be due on the following Monday. Students should expect to spend approximately four hours a day on their assignments. This would allow students to receive some direct teacher instruction and prepare for their workdays at home. In addition, students would receive an IPad or Chromebook to use at home while enrolled at ESLA.
100% Online Model – Each student would be given an IPad or Chromebook to use at home for all of their schoolwork. Assignments would be given through MobyMax, Math Expressions, Mystery Science, and additional websites. Students would need to participate in all assignments as they would receive grades for their work. To help with the online process teachers would record themselves, give academic links, and provide video clips that would be useful to the teaching concepts through Google Classroom. Teachers would be in contact with the individual student(s) at least once a week. All online classes would be taught by our certified teaching staff. Students should expect to spend approximately four hours a day on their assignments. Students will not be allowed to change from online to face to face or the Hybrid model instruction until the end of the trimester. The trimester dates are Nov 24th and March 5th.
